About Lilyfield
Lilyfield is a suburb in the Inner West, and it is one of the suburbs in New South Wales, Australia. It is between the suburbs of Annandale, Rozelle, and Leichhardt.
According to the 2016 census, there were 7,616 people in Lilyfield, 47.5% were male and 52.5% were females. There were also 3,668 families and the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people made up 1.3% of the population.
67.5% of the population were born in Australia. The next most common countries of birth were New Zealand 2.8% and England 6.0%.
It is believed that the area was once farmland and was named for the lilies that grew in the fields. But, its name origin still remains unclear.
History of Lilyfield
Lilyfield was a part of the suburb of Leichhardt.
James Barnet designed a psychiatric hospital, the government architect, based on asylum in Kent and make us of the principles of Dr. Kirkbride, an American psychiatrist.
The hospital was recognized until 1914 as the Callan Park Hospital for the Insane.
